An evening with DOL at KATZ Contemporary, Zurich

Art meets fashion, design and lifestyle.

This is in a nutshell what the exhibition KATZ x CABINET  “Similarities” entails, an equation where Art is represented by KATZ Contemporary, one of the most vibrant art galleries in Zurich, and fashion/design/lifestyle is brought to us by CABINET, one of the most cutting-edge shops in town.

The show, curated by Nina van Rooijen and Frédérique Hutter, presents us unusual associations between a selection of artworks by the gallery’s artists (such as Martina von Meyenburg, Peter Emch and Florian Bühler amongst others) and taxidermied animals, phytology and other precious things carefully assembled in a cabinet of wonder.

The “Cabinets of Curiosities”  – or Wunderkammer – were encyclopedic collections of objects whose categorical boundaries were, in Renaissance Europe, yet to be defined. Modern terminology would categorize the objects included as belonging to natural history, geology, ethnography, archaeology, works of art, antiquities, religious or historical relics.

In the same fashion, Similarities will open up unexpected dialogues between the works, the white cube space and the objects.

As part of the calendar of events and accessory to the show, on Thursday 16. February  art-lovers will have the chance to explore these wonders with a special guest: Discover Out Loud’s Ariane Tavakol.  DOL is a “Webzine” that feeds mainly on food, fashion, travel and interviews; a platform for urban explorers in Zurich and abroad.

Ariane will take us on a journey of discoveries, topped with music (DJ SoulMate will spin the decks) and drinks (the bar opens at 6 pm and will be serving until 9 pm).

Similarities runs through April 8, 2017.
