The #ArtBasel’s photo-diary (Part 1)

Dear Diary…

I must confess this weekend in Basel was one of the best ones since I have been living in Switzeralnd (5 years). Because of Art and sunshine. And perhaps the combination of the both.

Art Basel was the mind-blowing event it promised to be and met all the expectations I had. The quality of the works of art exhibited was high (if we exclude few exceptions…) and the calendar of events, talks, conversations and salons was simply appropriate for an event of this sort.

In this very special occasions, a special guest accompanied me to the fair: the very talented young photographer Till (Bitterli), who usually deals with landscapes and wildlife. In this very special occasion, he discovered that he gets along very well also with portraits, humans and the outcome of their creative thinking. 🙂

When the sun is shining people are smiling more… it was nice to see that Art can still drag people “inside” and that the pavilions were not deserted because of good weather… C08H3256 C08H3257 C08H3264 C08H3265

Between a visit to a floor and the other people were taking the time to enjoy a drink and a refreshment… a chat with a friend or… their newspaper!C08H3270 C08H3275

For me it was just another occasion for a nice glass of champagne and more questions to interesting strangers… Simona (above, sitting on the chair) is a student from Rome at Luiss University. She studies Law but she is really into Art. She came to Art Basel for the first time with the whole family. When I asked her what she liked the most, she promptly answered: “The fact that many years of studies are now paying… as I can recognize the works of Art and that’s making me extremely happy!”. C08H3291 C08H3295

The fair was organized in 3 floors,  but so well conceived it was nearly impossible to get lost in its corridors and halls… A map was guiding the visitors through and helping out people with poor orientation (like me!).C08H3314 C08H3315 C08H3326 IMG_1218 IMG_1220 IMG_1226

Champagne break over… let’s get back to work (above)…

It was an absolutely breath-taking Saturday, full of artsy talks with strangers, philosophical discussions, financial speculation and a twisted touch of glamorous awkwardness. Simply artemporary!

With love,
